CHESTER’S Winter Wonderland has been given mixed reviews by the Daily Telegraph in a review of similar festive events around the country.

One review even went as far as describing the outdoor Christmas event as ‘a tacky theme park they charge you to walk through’.

Highlights include various attractions such as an ice rink, real reindeer, Santa’s Grotto, a train ride, a vodka bar and a shopping village.

Visitors at the event spoke to the Chester Record last weekend, and they were generally pleased with the offerings.

Mum-of-three Jane Collister, 41, of Tarporley, said: “It’s something different for the little ones and there’s plenty of things to do. This is our fourth visit here.”

Steve Billington, 33, of Wrexham, North Wales, who visited with his two daughters and his mother, said: “Winter Wonderland appeals to many age ranges. The adults can have just as much fun as the kids!”

When asking visitors specifically how they felt about the Daily Telegraph’s review, a common trend in the responses was that it can often be difficult to compete with similar events such as Hyde Park’s original Winter Wonderland in London.

Katie Hayward, 24, from Hoylake, Wirral, visited with a group of friends and said: “It was always going to be compared to the Hyde Park event, but this is right on our doorstep, so it suits me just fine! Other events might have better attractions and be on a larger scale, but I like our local one!”

Season passes for the event can be purchased online through its official website, providing unlimited entry for the duration of the event.

Online tickets are priced at £5 for adults, and £3 for children.

Chester’s Winter Wonderland, which is based at Chester Racecourse, is running until 2pm on Christmas Eve.
